Recycling Services Report (a Residents' Perspective)
An assessment of public knowledge, perceptions of and attitudes towards recycling services.
This survey of public attitudes towards recycling is based on direct engagement with householders to understand real life barriers such as convenience, awareness and motivation. This research hopes to help shape more user-friendly recycling systems that encourage participation and improve waste management services across Scotland.
Key findings
- The majority of people dispose of waste such as paper and food/drink cans properly, but challenges remain with larger, bulkier items such as furniture.
- Recycling behaviours are driven by habit and routine.
- Many feel under-informed about waste disposal, what is recyclable and what happens to recycling after collection.
