Optimum Eco Group - making a lasting impact

27 Feb 25 2 minutes

The move towards a circular economy can help businesses grow in a way that’s responsive to customer demand and respects the limits of our natural environment.

Electronics and electricals reuse and recycling specialist, Optimum Eco Group, showcases how embracing circularity can put businesses at the forefront of innovation, futureproof their operations, help them find new markets, and create local benefit.

Operating two sites in Irvine, CCL North and Restructa, the Scottish business can process around 1.2 million products a year, diverting thousands of tonnes of equipment from landfill and keeping products and component parts in high-value use.

Circular economy boosts job creation

Since it was established in 2000 the specialist operation has grown to employ around 115 people, offering skilled job opportunities through apprenticeships and on-the-job training.

It’s an example of the circular economy in action, demonstrates the opportunity for technology reuse, and shows how embracing circularity can create green jobs and help communities thrive.

Our case studies are intended to give an example of the circular practices. They are not an endorsement of the company, organisation, individual, or product described.  Similar products or services may be available from other providers.  Information was correct at time of publication.

Recycling electrical waste in Scotland

Waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) is the fastest growing waste stream in the world . In Scotland, WEEE is prevalent in both businesses and households and includes everything from laptops to vapes.

Many electrical items are thrown away before they need to be, with reasons including our desire for new kit to lack of knowledge or access to repair. Reuse is a great way of keeping items in good use for longer, while recycling products at end of life means we can reclaim valuable components like lithium and copper.
