Ditching disposable cups – applications open for reusable cups
Applications are now closed.
If you’re considering setting up or enhancing a reusable cup scheme, we’d love to hear from you! We’re inviting applications from organisations looking to incorporate returnable cups into their operations, using Zero Waste Scotland branded “Ditching Disposables” cups, which we will provide.
Research from Zero Waste Scotland showed strong public support for measures to tackle our “cups crisis” – 388.7 million single-use cups are used every year in Scotland. Together, we can take steps to change this. Your organisation can help reduce this by offering a reusable cup scheme, where customers can borrow a reusable cup and return it later.
Also, a consultation on a mandatory minimum charge for the sale of single-use disposable cups for all beverages has recently closed in Scotland.
Applications closed 5pm Friday 14th February
Complete our online application form and let us know how you intend to reduce the use of single-use cups in your organisation. We recommend that applicants refer to the guidance notes below before completing the application. Should you require any assistance with completing the application form, or have any questions, please contact us.
If successful in your application, please be prepared to provide us with periodic “cupdates” about how you are getting on including information on the numbers of single-use cups displaced and any key learnings from your project as you go.
Applications for cups close 5pm on 14 February. Please contact us if you have any questions.

Additionally, Zero Waste Scotland has published advice and guidance on implementing a returnable cup scheme through its previous Ditching Disposables trials. You may find this background information helpful when considering your organisation’s plans.
