Characterising fish processing by-products

20 Feb 25

Identifying opportunities across the value chain.

The Scottish Government recognised in Scotland’s Circular Economy Strategy 2016 (Making Things Last) that the food supply chain and the bioeconomy are significant opportunities in the move towards a circular economy. In particular, the fish industry has been identified as a key player.

The objective of this project, led by Zero Waste Scotland in partnership with a Fish By-products Stakeholder Group, was to map both the capture fish processing supply chain and the aquaculture fish processing supply chain in Scotland to understand and characterise waste and by-products arising from fish handling and processing.
