Dundee-based social enterprise Tayside Re-users has today (Friday the 23rd of January) opened the doors to the newly refurbished Tay Treasures store.

Located within its main furniture emporium on the city’s Douglas Street, Tay Treasures sells a range of quality second hand clothes and bric-a-brac for both adults and children.

Tayside Re-users has been accredited by Revolve, a national quality standard for re-use which is delivered by Zero Waste Scotland, since 2013.  Revolve has 32 stores across Scotland supplying high quality re-used goods at an affordable price.

In the last year, Tayside Re-users has diverted 370 tonnes of products from landfill, reducing CO2 emissions equivalent to taking over 70 cars off the road for a year.

The newly refurbished store was opened by Iain Gulland, Chief Executive of Zero Waste Scotland in the first of a series of events to mark the 20th anniversary of Tayside Re-users.

Iain Gulland said:

“Tayside Re-users is a fantastic example of what Revolve is all about, and I’m delighted to be here to open their newly refurbished store today.  The products on sale here are of a high quality at an affordable price and the customer service is excellent.  By supporting the re-use sector to compete with high street standards, we’re working to create a fantastic alternative to buying new that benefits Scotland’s environment and local economies.”

Shiona Baird, Chair of the Trustees at Tayside Re-users said:

'The re-opening of Tay Treasures is about giving local people an alternative to purchasing new clothing and fashion items,  by doing so they will be saving CO2 and saving money'

Dundee based mobile app developers Waracle have been customers of Tayside Re-users for nearly 10 years.   Their clients include Virgin Atlantic, NHS Scotland and Ryder Cup.

Waracle’s David Romilly said:

"Tayside Re-Users is a great resource for any start-up in the city as they always have an abundance of quality office furniture. It's amazing value for money, quick and local. We've expanded from three staff to 30 staff and as we've scaled Tayside Re-Users have always been able to meet our office furniture needs.  Would highly recommend their service to any start-up or small business in the area."

Tayside Re-users is now open Monday to Friday 9am – 5pm, and Saturday 10am – 4pm.
