Partner (Business Support)

20 Month Fixed Term Contract

Help support Scotland’s businesses explore ideas and take positive action to innovate and accelerate our journey to a more circular economy.

Zero Waste Scotland, Scotland’s resource efficiency and circular economy expert is looking for an experienced business facing professional to work directly on the development of an exciting new workstream within our Business Support Programme.

The successful candidate will support a new partnership between Zero Waste Scotland, the Scottish Business Climate Collaboration and the Scottish Government, Just Transition Team.

Working within our flagship business support service you will be focussed on leading the development of a new staged, easy to use support programme for businesses on behalf of the Scottish Business Climate Collaboration (SBCC).

This is an exciting and collaborative role supporting businesses across multiple sectors which will have a significant impact on circularity, resource efficiency and emission reduction in Scotland.

As part of the role the successful candidate will be assisted and mentored as necessary by experienced managers within Zero Waste Scotland.

The SBCC is a group of leading corporate businesses with major footprint in Scotland who have joined forces to help accelerate the just transition to a net-zero future. A key element of their activity is to leverage combined scale and sustainability ambitions through targeting and supporting their extensive supply chain carbon. 

The Supply Chain Support Programme is focused on Small and Medium Sized Enterprises. It will engage, enable and support the sector, creating a practical step by step programme equipping businesses with the tools and knowledge to help achieve Scotland’s net zero targets, while significantly reducing emissions within their own organisations and in the goods and services they supply.

The SME programme’s objective is to be as simple, efficient and useful as possible and where possible will utilise existing resources available from partner agencies such as Energy Savings Trust, the Enterprise Agencies, Visit Scotland, Zero Waste Scotland and others.

As a partner, you will work closely with colleagues and external stakeholder to develop, plan, deliver the programme. You will be responsible for managing stakeholder engagement; providing expert advice and support to business to interpret and resolve queries and issues, offering tailored solutions which meets their needs and will accelerate the pace of change.

The ideal candidate

To be successful in this role you will be educated to degree level or equivalent with experience of sustainability in business. You will understand the drivers for carbon reduction, resource efficiency and principles of the circular economy and how to interpret and apply them to a broad audience.  

You will have excellent verbal and written communication skills and have demonstrable experience of influencing decision makers.  A track record of managing delivery via contracts and external contractors to deliver services is also desirable. You will be a team player able to work collaboratively with internal and external multidisciplinary teams.

Salary and benefits

£42,635 (Grade E) (pay range is £42,635 - £47,317)

Location:  Stirling

This role is based in our Stirling office located next to Stirling railway station and is conveniently accessed from across central Scotland.  We are leading by example in reducing our carbon footprint by embracing permanent home working and actively encourage this for colleagues where practicable.

There will be times for business needs that you are required to attend the office or a client location (normally within the Central Belt of Scotland), therefore applicants should live within a daily commutable distance of Stirling.
