Could you be a collection partner for our WEEE amnesty?

Organisations that can collect and re-use small electrical items such as phones, laptops and appliances are being offered the chance to take part in a national WEEE amnesty as part of Pass it on Week.

The week is our annual re-use week of action and we are holding an open call for partners to in the re-use sector to help stage a Scotland-wide WEEE amnesty in March 2017.

We want to raise awareness and stimulate consumer action around waste electricals, which research shows people are prone to hoarding and then throwing away. We want to encourage as many people as possible to pass on electrical/electronic items they no longer use while they could still have a value to others, by offering branded temporary collection bins for offices and workplaces along with an activation pack to ensure maximum participation.

We need re-use organisations that specialise in waste electricals/electronics to collect this material. To sign up as a collector you’ll need to:

  • Agree to collect material from workplaces/sites in agreed areas
  • Securely wipe data and provide assurances to donators of this activity
  • Ensure as much of the material as possible is re-used
  • Ensure any material that cannot be re-used is recycled as far as possible
  • Hold the correct licences to legally process the material collected
  • Report back on how much material was collected
