Circular businesses encouraged to apply for Scottish EDGE Award

Scottish EDGE is a national competition for up-and-coming entrepreneurs to win valuable funding and support. Scottish businesses with innovative circular economy products, services and solutions can now apply for the Circular Economy EDGE Award, supported by Zero Waste Scotland.

The circular economy is an all-encompassing approach to business. This alternative to the ‘make, use, dispose’ model, keeps products and materials in use for as long as possible. It’s about remanufacturing and reprocessing new products from old or providing goods as a service to cut down on waste. The Circular Economy EDGE award recognises the opportunities for success when sustainability is placed at the heart of business plans.

Scottish entrepreneurs who drive the circular economy forward are encouraged to apply for the special award category from Scottish EDGE. The loan funding aims to accelerate the growth of Scotland’s circular economy businesses and preserve our natural resources in the process. A past winner of the Scottish EDGE competition is Revive Eco, a sustainable company which takes used coffee grounds to make high value products.

Scottish EDGE launched its latest round, Round 14, on Monday 28 January 2019 with final pitching days planned for 28 and 30 May. Zero Waste Scotland will also help with judging the circular economy entries in the next two rounds of the Scottish EDGE competition. The top business idea will be awarded a prize of up to £100,000, plus winning businesses and finalists will also receive free one-on-one mentoring from an established entrepreneur.

To date, Scottish EDGE has given out over 350 awards, totalling over £13 million while helping to create over 1600 jobs and boosting turnover of awardee companies by £131.29 million.

If you’d like funding for your circular economy business idea, then apply via the Scottish EDGE website. Round 14 of the Scottish EDGE competition closes on the 4 March, 2019 at 2pm. Applicants are required to submit a completed application and a short video pitch.
