What's in your kitchen?

Did you know that 70% of the food we throw out is binned because we didn’t use it in time?

Click here to order your free packWe’ve teamed up with a whole host of fabulous food waste champions doing great stuff across Scotland to bring you a brand new Love Food Hate Waste resource that’ll mean you’re never staring at your cupboards clueless again.

‘What’s in your kitchen?’ is all about making the most of the food we love and includes 15 delicious recipes – from soups and starters to hearty mains and versatile sweets – along with hints, tips and useful alternatives to help you create great food by using up what you already have.

Each recipe was contributed by a different partner we’ve worked with, each bringing their own perspective to how they value food and how we can all do our bit to save it from going to waste.

The Scottish Government knows how much of an impact food waste has on our wallets and the environment and that’s why it has committed to reducing food waste in this country by 33% by 2025. With the help of the ‘What’s in your kitchen?’ pack you can help meet this target without even leaving your home.

All the recipes and tips are accompanied by a video to bring it to life.  To download the recipe pack, individual recipe cards and hints, please complete the submission form.

Working in partnership

We’re delighted to announce that, to promote this fantastic range of ideas from our contributors in Edinburgh and Glasgow, we’re partnering with the Edinburgh Evening News and the Glasgow Evening Times, who’ll be featuring a suite of articles, videos, diaries and more.

Graham Shields, Editor at The Evening Times said:

“The Evening Times is proud to help promote the Love Food Hate Waste campaign led by Zero Waste Scotland. By drawing attention to the amount of food that is thrown away we hope to help change attitudes.

Households across the city are chucking hundreds of pounds worth of produce into the bin every year. This week and next we have some great stories about how some families are cracking down on waste and making best use of their food budgets.

And we will have some tasty recipes for readers to try too!”

Euan McGrory, deputy editor of the Scotsman, Edinburgh Evening News and Scotland on Sunday, said:

"We are delighted to be supporting this great initiative by Zero Waste Scotland.

"What I really love about this campaign is that it doesn't take a lot to do and by taking part you win in every way. These helpful kitchen hacks make us all a little healthier, save us money, help the environment and taste great too."
