Funding

Zero Waste Scotland has a range of support available which, at times includes the provision of funding. Further details about the funding and support that is currently available can be found below.

INCREASE III Programme - Investment Fund

This funding programme is aimed specifically at improving the collection, recovery, recycling and / or re-use capacity of household and commercial and industrial wastes and infrastructure within the community sector across Scotland in order to push material up the waste hierarchy.

SPP002 - Mixed Plastics Capital Programme

The key purpose of this programme is to provide financial assistance to increase the quantity, variety and quality of mixed plastics collected from the municipal waste stream and processed for onward sale / reprocessing by investment in new processes and equipment and associated infrastructure.

MRF118 – Capital funding to increase the quantity and quality of non-inert construction & demolition waste arisings diverted from landfill in Scotland

Supported by the Scottish Government, the overall aim of the programme is to stimulate investment in Scotland in additional collection infrastructure and associated processing equipment specifically to deal with the non-inert fractions of mixed waste from Construction and Demolition sources and to process the material for use in a broad range of applications.

(Non-inert fractions include materials such as soils, fines, timber, plastics, plasterboard, packaging.  They do not include materials such as aggregates ie masonry, brick & block, stone, paving, tiles or ceramics.)

Capital grant funding

When a strategic need or market failure has been identified by WRAP, capital grants are made available to help address this shortfall. Capital grants are not available on a rolling basis and each programme has a specific launch date and deadline date for application.

Who is eligible?

This is dependent on the type of programme that is being offered.  Often there are no restrictions on the type or size of organisation that can apply.  Sometimes the size and location of an applicant can affect the amount of funding they are eligible for and applicants will need to look at the specific application document carefully.

Organisations such as local authorities, governmental bodies, charities, and community associations can apply but you will need to bear in mind that the project must demonstrate that it can be commercially sustainable in the long term and that it does not rely on grant funding.

You can view a copy of a typical Capital Agreement (166 kb) and the Capital Funds Guarantee Template (39 kb) This is a generic sample document and is applicable to all of the capital contracts so it is not specific to any one programme.
