Support for Local Authorities

Zero Waste Scotland provides support to Councils on a range of issues from technical support to assistance with campaigns.  There is dedicated support to local authorities through the Local Authority Support Manager and a number of other resources, both internal and via contracted 3rd parties, that Councils can draw upon to help them shape their services and support the necessary changes that are likely to be required to meet the Zero Waste Plan.

No charge will be made to Councils at the point of use. Where costs are likely to be incurred in a project, Zero Waste Scotland will make this clear at the outset and such costs will not incur any additional management fees.

Support will be provided where the following outcomes can be expected:

  • Increased recycling
  • Waste diverted from landfill
  • Waste prevented
  • Increased capture of key materials (paper, glass, metals, textiles, cardboard, plastics, food)
  • Costs are avoided or minimised

Projects will be monitored and evaluated to assess the outcomes that have been achieved and Councils must be willing to assist with this process on completion of the project.

Zero Waste Scotland can support Councils in the following areas:

  • Technical Support
  • Campaigns Support
  • Partnership Support
  • Training
  • Guidance
  • Food Waste
