Scottish Resources Conference – One Week to Go!

With just one week to go until Scotland’s leading resource management event kicks off in Glasgow, resource management, waste and circular economy professionals are being urged not to miss out on a place at the 2015 conference, entitled feeding the planet, feeding Scotland’s economy, on 7th and 8th October at the Glasgow Hilton.

30 Sep 15

The stellar speaker list includes Scotland Cabinet Secretary for the Environment and Rural Affairs, Richard Lochhead, food waste campaigner Tristram Stewart, and Kestutis Sadauskas, the European Commission’s Director for the green economy.  Mr Sadauskas will give the keynote address on day two, where he will discuss the European ambitions for a circular economy.

Mr Lochhead’s keynote address on day one will give delegates an important chance to hear the latest government thinking on the key issues and opportunities ahead, with the Scottish Government having recently launched Making Things Last,  a consultation on the circular economy.

With studies suggesting as much as 30-50 percent of food globally is never eaten, the first day focuses son the topical, global, issue of food waste, while the second day looks at development of a circular economy in Scotland.

The two-day event is organised jointly by the Chartered Institution of Wastes Management (CIWM) and Zero Waste Scotland, and both days see a strong line-up of sessions and workshops, as well as the annual Scottish Resources Awards.

Iain Gulland, Chief Executive, Zero Waste Scotland said:

“With a topical, thought-provoking agenda and an outstanding line-up of speakers, such as Richard Lochhead, Scotland’s Cabinet Secretary for the Environment. I’m really excited about this year’s Scottish Resources Conference. Focusing on how we tackle the global scandal of food waste, and how we grow the circular economy, this event is once again setting the pace.

“We have a rare opportunity to hear a senior member of the European Union team looking at the forthcoming circular economy package speak in Scotland, about the early thoughts from the recent circular economy consultation and the challenges and opportunities for business and the economy.”

Charlie Devine, Chair of the, Chartered Institute of Waste Management Scottish Centre, said:

“No professional in a relevant field will want to miss this year’s Scottish Resources Conference, with its must-see speakers, its focus on issues that matter to the waste, resource management, and circular economy sectors, and its opportunities to hear the speakers and thought-leaders who shape the direction of our work.

“Also important are the terrific networking opportunities this event provides for our sectors and I look forward to meeting as many of you as possible over the two days.”
