BRE are in the process of developing an Innovation Park on the site of the former steel works in Ravenscraig, Lanarkshire. The 1125-acre Ravenscraig site is being regenerated into a new town, featuring 10,000 houses, sports facility, town centre, community spaces and transport links. BRE has obtained a 2-acre plot of land on the site to develop an Innovation Park.

The Innovation Park at Ravenscraig will follow a ‘ground-up' approach to sustainable planning and development. The site will feature porous road surfaces and paving, 3-stage SUDS system, native planting and landscaping, street furniture and lighting, and a natural play area. Up to 12 demonstration buildings can be constructed which will showcase products and technologies which meet the future energy requirements for Scotland. A visitor centre will also be provided which will also operate as a community facility, engaging with local groups such as school children, young adults and Further Education colleges.It is the intention of Zero Waste Scotland to develop one of the plots at the Innovation Park to demonstrate the messaging of Zero Waste Scotland from resource efficient design and build through to product selection and a waste efficient lifestyle in occupation. As part of this project Zero Waste Scotland require additional support in Scotland and as such this project is to provide project management support.

The work will be to provide project management support to the following tasks:

  • manage and assist with the evaluation of a design competition to obtain partners to develop the ZWS plot of land;
  • enhance the development brief for the plot to ensure best practice messaging is captured;
  • manage the construction process to ensure that the development brief is followed through design and build;
  • manage the site observation and reporting activities which will be contracted to another supplier; and
  • manage the information dissemination activities on the park, through the completed build and visitor centre.
