Resolve to make a Pledge this January

This week many of us are returning to our working routine after a long and well-earned festive break, hopefully feeling refreshed and recharged.  And some of us with a New Year’s Resolution in tow – determined to take up a new hobby or sport, give up a bad habit, or to reach a new and ambitious goal.

2015 can be the year that your organisation makes a resolution, committing to a more sustainable and resource efficient year, with clear benefits for the company.

Signing up to the Resource Efficiency Pledge is a great way to set your business green goals.

The initiative from our Resource Efficient Scotland programme asks businesses and organisations to demonstrate their commitment to the environment by completing at least three actions to use energy, water and raw materials more efficiently.  On completion, you’ll receive a bronze certificate and can then chose to go on to complete silver, gold and platinum level, progressing year on year.  It’s open to any organisation in Scotland, and over 70 organisations across a range of industry sectors including Network Rail, RHI Scotland and Gordon & MacPhail have already done so.

It’s a great way to get recognition for your efforts, promote you businesses environmental credentials, and meet customer expectations around environmental performance.  But it’s also a great way to form a collective goal for your organisation to work towards and to motivate staff to come together to achieve it.

Edinburgh International Conference Centre, for example, one of the first organisations to achieve their bronze Pledge, set up a Green Team looking at catering and cleaning, putting in new measures and checking on results.  Green Champions, our free online training course for staff is another great Pledge action and arms employees with the skills and knowledge to make resource efficiency changes to the organisation.  What’s more, the progressive nature of the Pledge means that there’s always motivation to do more.

Making a Resource Efficiency Pledge really does have far-reaching benefits, but don’t take my word for it – find out why the Assembly RoomsIvan Wood and Sons and Managed IT Experts signed up and what they’ve got out of it, and then why not make 2015 the year that you do too. Janaury is traditionally a time to make resolutions, so go for it!?
