Our key areas of work

The circular economy presents many exciting opportunities and challenges for Scotland if we are to take full advantage of its potential as an alternative economic model.

The role of Zero Waste Scotland is underpinned by Scottish Government targets such as reducing Scotland’s greenhouse gas emissions by 42% by 2020. In recognition of our pioneering approach to the circular economy Scotland won the global Circulars Award at the World Economic Forum in Davos in January 2017.

We are focused on:

  • Embracing all circular economy opportunities for businesses and society
  • Working to overcome any challenges and obstacles to a circular economy model
  • Investigating new and innovative ways to conserve materials and to cycle materials and products efficiently back into supply chains and the economy
  • Offering practical, technical and financial support to businesses to support, stimulate, and encourage them to develop and implement their circular economy thinking, whilst also championing a marketplace which embraces circular approaches to doing business

By working in partnership, Zero Waste Scotland is aiming to overcome the primary challenges of implementing and realising a circular economy in Scotland.

As well as seeking to accelerate the bioeconomy, engaging with manufacturers and supporting the Resource Management Sector, we are working to establish re-use and repair as a social norm.

Whether you’re a new business, or already established, with an idea for a new process, product or technology to keep resources in use, we can help.
